Val
Mixing and Mastering Engineer
Val has spent the past decade in recording studios learning her chops from established music producers. While refining her skillset through a Music Production MA, she trained under award winning mixers and developed a special interest in vocal colouration. She has spent hours on end using both analogue and digital tools bringing out the unique character of a voice and the emotion behind a take. Having started her production journey as an independent artist, she has trusted her own songs to industry mixing top dogs and as such, understands how important it is to work closely with the artist and involve their creative vision in the mixing stage.
Matt
Mixing and Mastering Engineer
Matt is passionate about creating vibe and emotion through music. He grew up playing piano and trumpet in jazz ensembles and later pursued music production, focusing on his own project and producing for other artists. Through this process, Matt became obsessed with the mix and master stage and creating space and depth to frame musical ideas. Matt learnt from award winning mix and master engineers at university, giving him a chance to develop his ear in state of the art music studios. Also working as a recording engineer and producer at Climax Recording Studios in South East London, Matt has experience working in tandem with artists to build a unique sound that matches their vision.

MIXING
Mixing is like solving a puzzle (a great sounding puzzle), ensuring each element of your track is balanced and works harmoniously together. Giving the track space, clarity, character, and most importantly, emotion.

MASTERING
The mastering process is the home stretch before the finish line. It's the time to ensure your track will be sonically on par with your favourite artist's releases, and that it will sound great through fancy studio monitors and your nan's kitchen radio. In this stage we match your tracks parameters to the requirements of streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

our story
Val and Matt met in Pro Tools class while studying a music production MA in London. Both had been pursuing their own projects as independent artists and had worked with different mixing and mastering engineers, which gave them a clear perspective on what an artist cares about most while handing over their work to an engineer. After spending time learning from award winning mixers and developing their own craft and ears, they started mixing and mastering for other artists and developed a passion for bringing their music to life. They decided to team up and Oolong was born. As a team, Oolong is focused on creating a service that is truly artist first, its driving force is to nurture your creative vision.
